Frequently Asked Questions

For Readers

Where can I buy your books?

Wherever you normally buy books.  The books on our catalog page have links to major retailers like Amazon, Barnes & Noble, iTunes and Kobo. If you don’t see a title in your favorite bookstore, ask for it. Your friendly neighborhood bookstore representative will be able to order a copy for you.

For Writers

We are an independent publisher. We publish books we believe in, and take the time and care to do it right.

What’s your typical budget for a first-time author?

We typically invest $5,000 to $10,000 into books by first-time authors, but this varies greatly based on the genre and target market.

Do you pay an advance to authors?

We do not pay advances. We don’t get paid unless your book sells, so we think it’s fair that the author waits as well.

Total author payment varies greatly based on the book.

How do you distribute your books?

We distribute most of our print titles through Ingram, the nation’s largest distributor.  We distribute e-books directly to retailers.

Do you require agent representation for submission of work?

No. We believe there’s great work out there that’s not represented. Learn more about our submission process here.

Do you publish previously published manuscripts?

Typically no, but we may make exceptions. If you’ve self-published your manuscript, we’ll consider it in some circumstances. Please view our submissions page for more information.

Do I have to be from Ohio to submit my work?

You do not. Preference is given to writers with ties to Ohio, but we do accept submissions from authors everywhere.
